Derek's character arc of learning from his mistakes as a leader to become a better one, meeting Talia on the nemeton, being the king on Stiles' chess board, leading the twins in a pack of former alphas, and achieving the full wolf form like both his mother and Laura seem to indicate that Derek's evolution at the end of season 4 could be a step towards regaining his alpha status, but so far this has been left open to interpretation by the show. It will be interesting to see if this gets explored if Derek does return before the end of the show or if it will remain an open question.
I don't want to be in dispute with you, ... but your findings about Derek's relationship to Stiles being an anchor to Derek, his rescue of Jennifer being emulated from his interactions with Stile are not within the show's universe. That link to the video about the similarities on Derek's rescues of Stiles and Jennifer and implying that she deliberately emulated those circumstances - there's nothing within the show's canon to corroborate that. With all due respect to you, that's just a fan-made video. I believe the Series section should detail a general overview of the character's role in the series not some fan's creation speculation.
Plus, Derek is not in love with Stiles nor is he an anchor for Derek, I just believe, as displayed on the show, they simply develop a mutual appreciation and respect for each other after their bad start.
Also you're a contributor to this site, but could you give me a reason whenever you remove my edits, pointing the problem out to me.
Part of Derek's character development was shedding his old anchor, anger, and replacing it with a new one. Given the amount of emphasis placed on the development of Stiles and Derek's relationship over the course of the show - especially regarding trust, respect, saving each other, and learning to care deeply about each other as individuals - Stiles is a natural fit for becoming Derek's anchor. Jeff's comments about the dream scene at the end of season 3B and Stiles being the one who Derek sought out for comfort and advice when faced with Kate only cements this. I highly recommend checking out cupidsbow's analysis of this as she goes into great detail. This is the last page of it, but all the previous parts are linked at the top http://cupidsbower.tumblr.com/post/89600833985/re-reading-3b-derek-and-stiles-part-7
In respects to the fan made video, it was put together to show that the people working on Teen Wolf deliberately put in those parallels between Stiles/Derek and Derek/Jennifer. These similarities didn't happen by accident and take a lot of effort on the part of the writers, directors, editors, etc. and would not be put in without a reason. I simply gave the most likely reason for the similarities given the larger context, but you are free to add additional interpretations alongside my own if you wish. Teen Wolf is an open text, so multiple interpretations are possible - although we do prefer the deeper, more analytical readings of the text over more superficial readings.
There is a wealth of strong evidence that Derek does have romantic feelings for Stiles (and vice versa) as the development towards a relationship is there even though they have not gotten together. This is why phrasing it as I did was fine, but we cannot claim it as an official canon couple. Whether or not the higher ups at Teen Wolf decide to directly confirm this by the end of the show, we can still acknowledge the work that they put into it.
The site owner. magess, and myself are part of the Meta Pack* and we - as a group and as individuals - dedicate ourselves to analyzing the show. We don't have any issue with incorporating these analyses into this wiki if they have enough evidence behind them.
If you want to start a general guideline for writing down the reasons for the changes we make, then we can do that.
*Incidentally, the Meta Pack started a podcast at the beginning of August. It's now linked at the top of the home page if you want to check it out.
In short, part of the purpose of this site is to showcase the show as we've come to know it through meta. It's also how the timeline page came to be, thanks to magess' hard work.
I'm not sure if I need to clarify or not, so I'll add this bit just in case. We wouldn't accept any random interpretation or idea, not even one of the actor's impressions of something, without analysis of canon for supporting evidence. Basically an acedemic literary/film analysis of the show, but for the fun of it instead of as an actual university project or job.
This is sort of a side note, so I'm putting it here instead of in the page for lack of a better place. Because Derek evolved, has new powers, and is one of the more competent adults by the end of season 4, it makes sense that he isn't around anymore. If Derek was there it would take out a lot of the conflict and make things too easy. I.e. Story-Breaker Power.
He would've joined Stiles in being suspicious of Theo right off the bat making it much harder for the others to ignore Stiles' concerns and Derek would be able to investigate and go up against Theo much more easily than Stiles. He would've been there as a buffer between Stiles and Scott which would've likely prevented the problems between them from getting so bad. He would have added stability to the rest of the pack where Scott isn't always particularly effective.because Scott isn't always aware of what he should/shouldn't do and problems he unintentionally creates. Derek would've helped take out the Dread Doctors and Sebastian more easily.
But the plot needed Theo to undermine the pack, Scott and Stiles needed to have the schism happen (it was foreshadowed all the way back in 1x01), Scott needed to experience having his pack fall apart when other people aren't there to prop him up, and the plot couldn't be too easy to resolve or the story would become boring with little to do. So Derek really couldn't be there in order for things to happen the way they did.
Going back to my first comment in this thread, it would make sense to bring Derek back at the very end of the show to help defeat the final big bad and bring stability to Beacon Hills and allowing Scott to go off to college and live a normal(-ish) life as he's been wanting to do for ages, Obviously it isn't the only possible ending, but it would be a nice place where Derek could fit back into the story while drawing it to a close.
